Dr. Brennan is a developmental cognitive neuroscientist and speech-language pathologist interested in investigating the brain systems supporting language development and speech processing. Dr. Brennan’s current areas of research focus on speech, language, and communication in individuals with rare conditions, including Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS), Sanfilippo Syndrome, Autoimmune Encephalitis, as well as those who have complex communication needs. These projects include case study research, experimental research, and most recently, analyses of a large patient registry data set for SMS. She is a member of the Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) at the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as a member of the Intermountain Neuroimaging Consortium (INC). Professor Brennan currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in speech, language, and hearing sciences including courses on neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of communication, language disorders and learning disabilities, in school-age children, and acquired language disorders in adults. She earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University and her PhD and MA from Northwestern University. Dr. Brennan previously served as the SLHS coordinator of undergraduate Study and is currently serving as the CAA (Council on Academic Accreditation) SLP Program Director.
